a little trick tank drivers use to pass steep hills can be used over bumbs in the road and with some experimentation with body work. As you begin to go over the bump you steer to one side so there is more surface and the scale is devided over greater space. As you continue you steer the other direction to keep course and increase the surface per scale. As you receive a hit you can roll it on the surface to better use the energy and in case of blades to direct it elsewhere. We are usually strong in one direction and our density is low on the others. A stab is strong forward but if you are calm you can redirect it easily. Remember a cut is better than a stab if need be.
