To suggest the state of mind of panic during surprises and danger you can go through an attack to the finish without being able to breathe (holding your breath) the attackers can circle you waiting for the right time and only then attack. It will force a natural responce out of you and you be prompted to take action rather than respond.
Share your nightmare situation with your friends and go through it in stages. If for example you dread being attacked in a gale cell or a dark alley, Create a scenerio to mimick this and go through it slowly so you learn what was it in your mind which causes the tension. One way to relax is to have several people twist and pull on you as you breath and move. One you lived through a state of panic once you can lower and lower the effect it has on you in a healthy way without injury. Fear can be a good teacher and tool to create energy and help your awareness as long as you keep a calm mind and act without trying to be someone instead of yourself. There is a time to run and a time to fight which you have to choose. Coming up with new solutions is much harder when you allow the tension to take over you.
