A little thing I explained a few times but this one was understood so here goes: To stand or to be at any point of rest we balance the forces that work. If you tilt forward the muscles have to pull you backwards, right to left and so on. Keeping aligned will lessen the work you have to do to be calm and allow you to move more freely and have less of a well to fall into when encountered with a step you haven’t noticed, a push or anything else. This works in a very easy to understand way when you work with another, If he presses a fist to your lower back than you will naturally even that pressure and push back and the body will relax around it or flex to even out the point of imbalance. As you remove that support, the body will be in imbalance and you will be able to easily handled.
To take in the wave principle and why you need to relax and how there is no leaning into the hit use a piece of rope. Lay it on the ground and whip it. You can see the wave moving along it and only for an instant does it exist in each part till it reaches the end. Now place a stone or tie something along the way and see if the wave travels as before.
