Start with a hitting drill as you close distance and hit (and keep walking) and go back for counts. For example you walk toward each other and exchange one hit as you keep walking and break contact distance. Than you close and hit each other twice and break and so on to fifteen and back but to this add a drill to keep your mind free to see other things as well. I suggest finding words which lilt together for example one will say dog and the partner fog and the next time the other will start with this. Try it.
