It is a fact that we are more precise when we have balance. The longer the lever we have to support, the less balance we have (try to hold a hammer by the handle the furthers you can from the body and see the difference between it resting in the loop you made on your pants for it.) For example if you are shooting a long rifle, a tripod will help you relax and gain some balance back in your structure and allow for better hits. If your rifle is without its own tripod or bipod you can brace it on a tree limb, a rock or make a Y shaped branch for it and carry it for this need in your vest. One unpleasent but lighter version of this idea is bracing using the shoulder of a friend. He will NOT enjoy this so use it only if it is a must.

In your daily work you have many opennings for making things out of other available material in place of buying or asking for help when it is not needed. For example, can you think of 10 uses for rubber bands and duct tape (or any cind of tape like electrician tape). Can you make a structure that will support your mass using a deck of cards and tape ? can you create a door or window alarm with cans and fishing wire ? Play with this and note how you can use what is already there.
