Survival or confort gear is limited only by your imagination. For example if you carry 2-3 big industrial trash bags (orange if you are a civilian who wants to be visible) than you add perhaps 15 grams to your kit and hardly any bulk but the operations grow much more: for example: Carrying water to camp to take out a fire or shower, create an instant wind-water coat, waterproof sleeping bag, dew collector for the desert in the early morning, extra bag for the smelly parts of the pray, field dressing cover, bag cover, Flag for common sign signaling, food prep table, fish trap with the aid of any common carcas and some holes in the bottom of the bag, fix kit for your tent if you carry one and much more. Another thing in you kit can be a small tube of super glue, it is harmless and can be used for so many things. One example from a friend of mine is he used it to glue his broken credit card while on a trip to the US and it helped a lot. The limits are only in your head.
