Many times when you wish to get out of the way you end up with one limb or turned trunk in the way. It can be becasue haste (fear) workes to change our upright form (in many ways takes our humanity away in form and function). To learn to move as one try this drill: Stand with your hands resting on the small of your back so half of the surface of the hand is on the lower back and half is on your behind. This connects your hips and shoulders and let you feel the position and tension in your hips much better. Now if you start your step by leaning your torso you will feel it by the tension and pressure on your shoulders and arms. To move your legs without creating tension in the connection between the lower and upper body you start by simply lifting the foot off the ground and than moving it to where you need to be and than shifting the mass. This way you don’t tense up any part you don’t need before or after you use it (why tense the thigh muscle before you move the leg) and both the form and relaxation is kept at a higher awareness and effectiveness. Another form with less effect which focuses on the middle back form and relaxation is by folding your forearms together parralel to the ground on your back which helps you relax the shoulders and keep the back upright as you move. Work honestly and enjoy.
