A few tips for knife training: As you move remain balanced and reach only what is comfortable. You can slide to any side on the flat of the foot for some aditional reach but don’t compromize your posture. Let the knife of the opposition finish it’s course and guide it a bit further or sideways with your knife or any body part and see what happens. Relax the body and let it turn and tilt as a whole when hit with a knife so for example if you are hit from above in the shoulder and turn with the blow to avoid getting stabbed your legs and hips will also move and not just twist like a spring on the spot and create tension that will be the end of you. Try to avoid getting hit by blood spatter from IMAGINARY cuts and stabs you are making and don’t forget the less lethal option of using the flat, side and handle of the knife to get out of a choke, hit a person in his kicking leg and so on. Another thing to keep in mind is that the knife is sharp for you too. Move it in a way so if it is thrust at you by a blow, a fall or a grab it will not stab you. For example Aim the tip of the knife at your back and comb your hair with it from a far. This is a move that works well against chokes and will not end up inside you if you are moved or unbalanced. Remember the fight in reality is fluid and ever changing. Don’t dress up for just one show.
