Place your stick on the back of your neck and support it there using your elbows overlapping it. Have a partner pull and push you in any way he wishes and you work to go with his gift of direction and choosing to move in a way which is good for your freedom. For example he pulls you to him from your side using your arm and you add a step to the left and turn while moving toward him as he wishes as he gets the stick in his neck. Do this with breathing to let the tension go and avoid giving any support to your partner. Change places and repeat the drill and do it again later on with the stick at your back and your arms are over it and pressing it to your back. In this position focus on small work using your fists and arms and shoulders and as you go with the pulls and pushes of the partner we learn to notice the ways we can work ourselves. For example if he pushes us from behind using both hands we slide down one hip and turn to one side and he ends up moving into our elbow with his chest.
